Squash for Better Health and Eyesight

Pupils who get a failing grade receive a “kalabasa award” because of the shape of squash (kalabasa) which looks like “zero”. But to the grown-ups, squash actually belongs to the super foods. It contains vitamin A that can help us gain better eyesight, smoother and clearer skin and healthier hair. Its tops, flowers and fruits which are used as vegetables here in the Philippines have great food value. The young shoots and fruits are rich in calcium, phosphorous, iron and vitamin B while the flowers have vitamin A and calcium.

Babies Anyone?

My friend, Gemma had difficulty getting pregnant. She and her husband underwent several tests and treatments, until she finally conceived. Ecstasy.

Another friend, Rina could not have a baby so she and her husband decided to adopt a child. Joy.

My neighbors, Fely and her husband couldn’t afford to have many childred. So they had only two, after which, they resorted to artificial means so Fely wouldn’t get pregnant. Guilt.

Our relative, Bea got pregnant out of wedlock. Only then did she find out that her boyfriend had children with three other women, and was now living in with a new girlfriend. Bea, though bitter and angry, is keeping her baby. But she’s only 17, a minor, so her parents are suing her boyfriend. Sorrow.

Vitamin D is Important to the Body

Sunlight is often the best source of vitamin D but we can also get it from salmon, tuna and fortified foods like milk and orange juice. Getting this vitamin is important to our bones as well as other parts of the body. Having an adequate amount of this vitamin will reduce the risk of being fractured and will help us maintain the strength of our muscle. It may also protect our heart, reduce the risk of diabetes, lower the odd of having cancer and help in the development of the brain. No wonder that vitamin D is making headlines by being the vitamin of the year.

Sarah Geronimo’s Love Life

The pop princess Sarah Geronimo recently denied that Rayver Cruz is wooing her. Rayver is a close friend and they have been communicating but it doesn’t mean that he is courting her. “Love can wait” according to Sarah and her priority now is her career. Though the month of hearts is approaching, she is firm of her decision not to be involved in a romantic affair. She is now busy shooting the movie “You Change my Life” a part two of her hit movie “A Very Special Love” with John Lloyd Cruz.

Dirty Jobs

One TV personality seeks out the most dirty and grimy jobs he can find. Then he does those jobs on camera so we can all be grossed out.

The surprising thing that usually comes out of this excursion into grime is that the people who do these really nasty chores for a living seem happy to be doing them. I wonder if that’s the way it is among our people.
